She was the eldest daughter of Greenbury Sewell(1778-4/30/1847) and Anna Braswell Sewell(1773-3/09/1847). She married Lindsey Chandler in 1830 in Franklin County, Georgia and later thereafter moved to Carroll County, Georgia with members of the family. It was not until 1838 that the first surviving record exists of Lindsey owning his own land near Smithfield, Carroll County, Georgia where they lived.
Reportedly Matilda`s siblings are in the order of their birth including her;
