Doris M. Cherney, age 84, of rural Whitelaw, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, was called by God on Monday, November 28, 2016, peacefully in her home with family by her side.

Doris was born August 20, 1932, in the town of Franklin, daughter of the late Frank and Eleanor (Stransky) Muench, their 2nd of three daughters. She attended St. Joseph’s grade school in Kellnersville.

She married her best friend from grade school and soul mate, Lester Cherney, on October 20, 1953 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kellnersville. They returned to his homestead to raise their family and begin their blessed life together. They were best friends, card mates, dancing and fishing partners. They traveled together for Lester’s work and made many friends along the way. After Lester’s passing on February 25, 2007, Doris missed him every day. They are now reunited in the arms of the Lord.

Anyone who knew Doris, knew of her commitment to family, faith in Our Father, and her love of the world around her. As a mother, she took great pride in raising her family. Each child has fond memories of baking, fishing, card playing, crafts, and sewing. As a grandmother, Doris had such pride for her grandkids. She was often found cheering along the sidelines for sporting events, or in attendance of school activities. The family treasured annual events such as Easter egg hunts on the farmstead and fishing trips to Minnesota.

Doris’s two most important jobs were that of a homemaker and a secretary for Lester’s insurance agency. However, throughout the years, she had several other jobs. She worked at Mirro, was a CNA for several nursing homes, worked in food service at St. Norbert College and Equity lunch room.

Over the years, she volunteered her time for groups such as the Rosary Society, Homemakers Club, St. Joseph’s Home School Association, Tuesday Ladies Club, and the Friends of the Branch River. However, her talent that was enjoyed by the most people was her baking ability. She took delight in making and sharing kolaches, sweet rolls, pies, and all kinds of other treats.

Her life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children: Linda (Jeff) Delaney, Muskego; Patricia (John) Kiekhaefer, Morrison; Kenneth Cherney, Reedsville; Sandra Puyleart, Green Bay and her fiancé; Andy Ofsdahl; Kevin (Christine) Cherney, De Pere. Doris loved spending time with her fifteen grandchildren: Devin Delaney and his fiancé, Tiffany Davis, Michael (Christine) Delaney, Patrick Delaney, Erin (Nate) Schipper, Matthew (Nichole) Kiekhaefer, Kristin Kiekhaefer, Nathan Kiekhaefer, Jennifer Bink, Heather Cherney, Derrick Cherney, Travis Puyleart and his fiancé: Meghan Lockery, Tracy Puyleart and her special friend: Brian Dummer, Lukas Cherney, Benjamin Cherney, Samuel Cherney; eight great-grandchildren: Lucas, Amalee, Ethan, Adalyn, Ivy, Skylar, Jasmine, Loretta. Doris is further survived by her one sister: Germaine Kvitek, Mishicot; one sister-in-law: Esther Pleuss, Manitowoc; her loving cat: Snickers, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents: Frank and Eleanor Muench; her loving husband: Lester Cherney; one sister and three brothers-in-law: Marlene (John) Kvitek; Joseph Kvitek, Sr.; Victor Cherney.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 2, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Kellnersville. Rev. David Pleier will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial with burial to follow in the parish cemetery.
