John (Jack) Phillip Reeg, son of George and Mary Reeg, was born in Madison County, Nebraska, April 13, 1898, and departed suddenly from this life at his home Thursday morning, April 5, 1962, at the age of 62 years, 11 months, and 22 days.
During infancy, John was baptized in the Name of the Triune God, and was later in his teens confirmed as a member of the Lutheran Church. At the time of his death, he was a member of the Augustana Lutheran Church in Genoa.
On July 12, 1923, John was united in marriage with Miss Laverna Thomazin at the Bethany Lutheran Church of Lindsay, Nebraska. For the past twenty-five years, they have made their home on the present farm 8-1/2 miles north of Genoa. John was a devoted husband and loving father. He also bestowed much love upon his grand children.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, La Verna, three sons, Kenneth at home, Keith and Duane both of Genoa, five grand children one brother, George Reeg of Madison, Nebraska; five sisters, Mrs. Mary (Will) Knapp and Mrs. Elizabeth (David) Blank both of Madison, Nebraska, Mrs. Katherine (Jess) Reeves, Battle Creek, Nebr., Mrs. Pauline Rruess, Luverne, North Dakota, Mrs. Clara Renner, Norfolk, Nebr.; other relatives, and a host of friends.
The funeral services for John (Jack) Reeg were held at the Augustana Lutheran Church, Genoa, Saturday afternoon, April 7, 1962, with Pastor Larson in charge. "Abide With Me" and "Rock of Ages" were sung by a male quartette, George Ericson, Gail Johnson, Clifford Peterson, and Lawrence Pearson. Mrs. Curtiss Peterson served as organist.
The pallbearers were David Snavely, Don Cummings, Winfred Pearson, Wayne Muckey, Maurice Matzen, and Harold Groteluschen.
Interment was in the Valley View cemetery of Genoa, and funeral arrangements were in charge of the Hasch Mortuary.
