Born March 4, 1924 in Alpine to William Allen Bateman and Sarah Russon, she moved with her family to Salt Lake nine days later.
After graduating from South High School, she attended LDS Business College. She worked at Standard Oil Co. and in the office at Granite School District.
She married Leo. N. Stratton on February 24, 1950 in the Salt Lake Temple. Their eternal marriage is truly a sweet love story.
She was a woman of many artistic talents. She enjoyed sharing her dried flower arrangements with her family and many, many friends through the years. Her homemade candy was a special treat that she also loved sharing.
Making and keeping friends was a rare trait that she possessed. Her loving gentleness and quick humor touched and enriched the lives of all those who were privileged to be in her midst. She radiated the life of her Savior - caring for others and giving years of service in various ward and Stake callings.
She preferred teaching by quiet and gentle example. Her "I'm fine" answer regarding inquiries about how she was feeling characterized her always optimistic attitude. Her sweet, kind, loving spirit endeared her to all. She was faithful, determined, unwavering, and persevered to the very end. Though the last years of her journey were especially difficult, it is now time for her to rejoice! All is well!
She is survived by adoring husband, Leo; brother, Joe (Dorothy) Bateman; loving sister, Belva Walkenhorst; son, Scott (Shelley), of Santa Clarita, California; and son, Shane (Jill), and daughter, Heidi Stratton, of Salt Lake City. She treasured her family and grandchildren, Brett (Jenn), Camie, Kristina (Layne) Larsen, Katie, and Kelsey; and great-granddaughter, September. Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Allen Bateman; sister, Donna Steadman; and brother-in-law, Bill Walkenhorst.
Funeral services will be held at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive (1495 East), East Millcreek, on Saturday, February 12, 2005 at 12:00 p.m. Friends may call prior to the services from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m.
Interment will follow in the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
