Donna J. Abens, 63, of State Center, IA formerly of Geneseo passed away Saturday, February 14, 2015 at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center, Marshalltown, IA.

A funeral mass celebrating Donna’s life will be held 11:30 AM Thursday, February 26, 2015 at St. Malachy Catholic Church, Geneseo. Rev. Michael Pakula will celebrate. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. Visitation for Donna will be held 10:30-11:30 (1 hour prior to the service) Thursday at the church.

Donna was born April 15, 1951 in Joliet, IL the daughter of Donald and Audrey (Deiss) Abens. She was a 1969 graduate of Geneseo High School. In her early career, Donna was a home health aide and then worked at the University of Iowa as a switchboard operator for 15 years. When Donna lived in Geneseo she attended St. Malachy Catholic Church. She enjoyed crafting and needlepointing to send as gifts to friends. Donna especially enjoyed writing letters and notes to her family and friends.

Survivors include her brother: Paul (Mary) Abens of Marshalltown; 2 nieces: Barbara Abens of Des Moines, IA and Katie Elzinga of Salt Lake City, UT and her daughter Ella; and nephew: Dan Abens of Ames, IA.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents.
