Joan Lee McFarland, 74, passed away suddenly on February 13, 2015, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. She was born January 17, 1941, to Kenneth and Xenia Bowers in Des Moines, Iowa.
Joan retired in 2012 as a Site Coordinator for Polk County Senior Services. She was an avid bowler for more than 30 years and loved surrounding herself with the ones she loved.
Joan is survived by her husband, Everett McFarland; children, David McFarland, Brenda Emelo, and Mary Ann Smith; 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; as well as her brother, Lon Bowers; sister, Xenia Hamby; and beloved dog, Elvis. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Kenneth Bowers.
