Fort Fairfield – John F. McCue, 88, husband of the late Katherine L. "Kay" (Ashworth) McCue, passed away Wednesday morning, February 11, 2015 at a Houlton nursing facility, following a brief illness. He was born June 3, 1926 in Island Falls, the son of Howard M. and Dorothy (Myrick) McCue.

He attended Island Falls schools, was a graduate of the Fort Fairfield High School, Class of 1944, and served his country during World War II with the 1320th Combat Engineering Platoon, serving in the European Theater of Operations. He was married to Katherine L. Ashworth on May 28, 1948 and had been employed as a postal clerk in Fort Fairfield for many years until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of the Fort Fairfield United Parish Church, the Fort Fairfield VFW Paul Lockhart Post Number 6187 and the Fort Fairfield Lions Club. John greatly enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, and he was also an avid card player.

In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his wife Katherine "Kay" McCue on February 28, 2007; one brother, Donald McCue; one sister, Geneva Allen. He is survived by two sons, Gary McCue and his wife Kathy of Island Falls, Greg McCue and his wife Elaine of Lakeville, MN; a stepson, Robert Ashworth of Lady Smith, Vancouver Island, British Columbia; four grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, three great grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield at a later date.
