Evelyn Macon Gilbert
MACON - Evelyn Macon Gilbert died Saturday night. Graveside services will be held at 11A.M., Wednesday at Macon Memorial Park with Dr. James Bruner officiating. -The family may be contacted at the residence. -Mrs. Gilbert was born in Macon, Georgia on August 18, 1921, the daughter of William Earl Macon and Pearl Hobbs Macon. She was a descendant of the family of Nathaniel Macon, for whom the City is named. She was the wife of the late John William Gilbert, Jr. -Mrs. Gilbert was a member of the Federated Garden Clubs of Macon. She was twice President of the Macon Judges Study Club, Past President of the Forest Hill Garden Club, and Past President of Middle Georgia Council of Flower Show Judges. She was a National Master Flower Show Judge. As well as being a flower design instructor, she was given the award of Most Outstanding Program for her presentation of "The Life of Christ." -Mrs. Gilbert was Past Regent of the Nathaniel Macon Chapter of the D.A.R., and a National Member. She was also a member and Past Vice President of the John Alden Chapter of the Colonial Dames and was a member of Huguenot Society. She was Past President of the Macon Exchangettes Club, and in 1997, was named Outstanding Member of the Year. -In the past, she helped plan weddings, provided flower arrangements, and made wedding cakes. She was a member of Highland Hills Baptist, and for many years, served as Flower Chairperson. Mrs. Gilbert taught Sunday School, and was a member of the Sara Harrell Sunday School Class. -Mrs. Gilbert is survived by her sons, John W. Gilbert, III of Macon, Stanley T. Gilbert of Roswell, GA and Lyn M. Gilbert of Winter Park, FL. Eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild also survive.
