Alma Pearl Beard Oliver passed away Saturday, February 7, 2015 at Lynchburg Health and Rehabilitation Center after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Robert W. Oliver, Sr. for 48 years. Born on May 8, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Leslie Lee and Winnie Duff Beard.In addition to her husband, Alma was preceded in death by four brothers, Clarence, Leslie Jr., Raymond and Claude Beard; two sisters, Alice Campbell and Frances Hamilton; and son-in-law, Tom Pankey. Survivors include three daughters, Julia Pankey, Barbara Pitts and husband Mike, and Freda Payne and husband, Norman; one son, Robert Willis Oliver, Jr.; one sister, Helen Dees; one brother, Clyde Beard; six grandchildren, Christal Wyatt (Richard), Brad Pitts (Dana), Karen Rixey (Harry), Bethany Pitts Klingebeil (Andreas), Laura Payne and Danny Payne (Megan); five great grandchildren, Tiffany Rixey, Becca Pitts, Bellagrace Klingebeil, Dillon and Davis Pitts.Alma was a member of the Lynchburg Seventh Day Adventist Church and she enjoyed singing hymns with her visitors and caregivers. Alma was a great cook and always had something on hand for folks who stopped by for a visit. When fresh vegetables were in season you could hardly see the top of the table for all the bowls and platters that were filled with her home cooking. Most of all, anyone who ever ate at Alma's table will miss her homemade rolls! The family wishes to thank the staff of the West Wing at Lynchburg Health and Rehabilitation Center for the loving care provided to our mother and for the support offered to the family. Special thanks also to Pastor Charles Oliveri and his wife, Kay; and Elsie Tomlin for their faithful visits and the support and friendship shown to the family. The family will receive friends, from 1 until 2 p.m., today, Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at Heritage Funeral Service and Crematory. A funeral service will immediately follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel by Pastor Charles Oliveri. Interment will follow in Allwood Cemetery, Amherst.
