BONNIE FAYE McCUNE

Bonnie Faye McCune, the daughter of the late James Edward and Berth (Forney) Sheldon, was born April 2, 1913, in the Griggs Oklahoma Community. She entered into eternal rest on September 19, 2009, in Elkhart, Kansas, at the age of 96 years.

Bonnie was raised six miles east of the present Griggs store on her parents homestead. Bonnie attended school at North Fork Country School, through her eighth grade. Her mother died during this time, so Bonnie took on the responsibility of helping raise her little sister.

Bonnie Faye Sheldon united in marriage to George Ben McCune on May 8, 1929, at the Methodist Church parsonage, in Texhoma, Oklahoma. To this union three children were born, Harold, Betty Darlene and Carolyn.

Bonnie and George lived in the Griggs, Oklahoma area, after they were married where they farmed. In 1935, during the depression and dust bowl years, Bonnie and George sold their farm and moved to Missouri. They settled on a farm near Amsterdam, Missouri. While living in Missouri, George along with his father and brother, owned and operated a coal mine. In 1941, Bonnie and George with their family decided to return to the panhandle, this time they lived west of Kerrick, Texas.

During the war years the family moved to Dumas, Texas for a while. In 1948, the family moved west of Boise City, where they farmed and raised cattle. They lived on the farm until 1975, when they moved into Boise City.

Bonnie enjoyed sewing, she made a quilt for each of her granddaughters. She loved having a pretty yard and flower beds. Bonnie worked her yard even in her eighties. She had some of the most beautiful peace roses. When living on the farm, Bonnie would have picnics for her granddaughters, in the yard. The granddaughters and great grandchildren were Bonnie's pride and joy. The family enjoyed going to Grammy's, especially if they knew she was making her famous homemade raised donuts. Bonnie not only was known for her donuts, she liked having her family around and enjoyed cooking for them.

Bonnie in 2004, no longer could live by herself and moved into the Cimarron Memorial Nursing Home, when it closed, Bonnie moved to the Morton County Care Center, in Elkhart, Kansas.

Bonnie was a member of the First Baptist Church, Boise City, Oklahoma, where she was a faithful member.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband, George, a daughter, Betty Darlene McCune, a brother Charles Sheldon and her parents James and Berth Sheldon.

Survivors include: her children Harold and wife Mary Lee, Boise City, Oklahoma, and Carolyn Hegwood and husband Duane, Boise City, Oklahoma, one sister, Janette Bruner, Delta, Colorado, six granddaughters, fourteen great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be Thrusday, September 24, 2009 at 10:30am at the First Baptist Church, Boise City, Oklahoma with Dan Anderson and Ordean Nelson, officiating. Interment will be in the Boise City Cemetery. The family has suggested memorials to the First Baptist Church, Boise City, Oklahoma or to the Morton County Care Center, Elkhart, Kansas, they may be left in care of the mortuary. Services by Cimarron Mortuary, Boise City, Oklahoma.
