OBITUARY GARRATTSVILLE-STEPHEN A. WINTERS; Stephen A. Winters, 81 of Garrattsville passed away Saturday, February 16, 2008 in Oneonta. He was born in the town of Burlington on October 31, 1926 the son of Arthur Winters and Margaret (Telfer) Winters and lived in the Butternut Valley his entire life. He married Isabel Turnbull August 31, 1947 at the Presbyterian Church in Garrattsville. He was employed by the Bendix Corporation of Utica as a machinist in the experimental division. He also owned and operated the Winters Agency of Garrattsville for many years, dealing I real estate and insurance. Steve and Isabel enjoyed traveling and had traveled in their R.V to 49 states including Alaska. He was a charter member of the Garrattsville Fire Company and had held every position in the fire company except Secretary/Treasurer. He was a long time member of the Presbyterian Church of Garrattsville and had served as an elder and trustee for several years. He had served in several positions on the Butternut Valley (Brick Schoolhouse) Cemetery Association board including president. Steve is survived by his wife Isabel, his 4 children and their spouses, Stephanie Ragone and Husband Donald of Delmar, Timothy Winters and wife Patricia of DeRuyter, Cynthia D’Amboise and husband Daniel of Ballston Lake, Janet Winters and husband Lee Thomassen of Stewartstown, PA. He was blessed by his 11 grandchildren, Alison Ballou, Brien Ragone, Jennifer Downs, Elizabeth Nash, Jason Winters, Michael, Andrea and Leia D’Amboise, Ian, Sarah, and Miranda Thomassen and his great grandchildren, Maxwell and Calvin Ballou, Charles and Thomas Ragone, Neyla , Evan and Cassandra Downs and Isabel McReynolds. He is also survived by a brother Richard Winters and wife Carol of Morris. Calling hours will be held on Friday, February 22, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8;00 pm at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris. An Otsego County Firemen’s Memorial Service will be held at the funeral home at 8:00 pm on Friday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:00 am at the Presbyterian Church in Garrattsville with Fred Downs, Lay minister officiating.. Interment will be at a later date in Butternut Valley (Brick Schoolhouse) Cemetery.
