Frances Poston Lilly

Princeton, WV - Frances Poston Lilly, 79, of Princeton, died Saturday, March 3, 2001 at her home following an extended illness.

Born October 25, 1921 in Princeton, she was the daughter of the late Worley M. Poston and Pauline Karnes Poston. She was a retired employee of Mercer County Schools having served 38 years as a music and band teacher. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Princeton where she had served as the church pianist until her illness. She attended Mercer County Schools graduating from Princeton High School and Concord College majoring in Music Education. She also attended West Virginia University and the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. During her 38 years of serving the students of Mercer County, she prepared and directed many musical programs, took the Mercer School Band to state festivals and traveled throughout the county teaching elementary music.

Active in community organizations, she was a life member and past president of the Delphian Club, member and past president of Zeta Chapter of Elta Kappa Gamma Society International, member of the Retired Teachers Association, was honored as Teacher of the Year for Mercer Schools, and actively participated in two local bridge clubs. An active member of the First Baptist Church of Princeton, she participated in the Fidelis Sunday School Class, was a state and local officer in the Women's Missionary Union, past officer of East River Association, member of the Mission Action Circle and accompanist for both her Sunday School Class and the 11 a.m. worship service. She spent much of her time developing her talents of china painting and needle-point. She was preceded in death by her husband, John W. "Billy" Lilly, and her brother, William K. Poston.

Survivors include one niece, Ruth Linkenhoker Broyles of Princeton, three nephews, Dr. William K. Poston, Jr. and his wife Pamela of Charlotte, NC, Jonathan H. Poston of Charleston, SC, and Lynn S. Hoback of Dearborn, MI, one great niece, Amanda Poston, and one great nephew, William K. Poston, III, both of Charlotte, sister-in-laws, Mrs. Kathryn Poston of Bluefield and Patricia Linkenhoker and her husband Bill of Princeton, brothers-in-law, Silas D. Hoback and B. Joe Lilly, special cousin, Louise Osborne and good friend Bridgette Pendleton, all of Princeton. Special thanks go to her caregivers of the last several months, Dakery, Mary and Penny.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Tuesday at the First Baptist Church with Dr. David Dockery and Rev. Clifford Schell officiating. Burial will follow at the Athens Cemetery.

Men of the Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may call at Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton from 5 to 7 PM on Monday.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Princeton or Community Hospices of America in Green Valley.
