George E. Johnson Sr., 68, of 20710 Shepard St., died Monday at his home.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Reed & Benoit Funeral Home. Burial with full military honors will follow in North Watertown Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Donations may be made to Hospice of Jefferson County, 425 Washington St.
Surviving are his wife, Muriel W.; three sons, George Jr., Clovis, Calif., Gary, Cambridge, Mass., and Tom E., Watertown; a stepson, Roland VanDusen, Clayton; a daughter, Veranne M. Johnson, Watertown; five grandchildren; a brother, John A., Rochester, and several nieces and nephews.
Two brothers died before him.
Born on Oct. 21, 1925, in Watertown, a son of Clarence and Anna Lalonde Johnson, he attended Watertown schools and served in the Marine Corps from May 1943 to August 1946. He participated in the occupation of China in the Pacific theater of operations.
He married Muriel Wood on May 12, 1953, in Watertown.
Mr. Johnson was a refrigeration mechanic at Fort Drum for 20 years, retiring as post engineer in January 1993.
He was a member of the Marine Corps League, the North Side Improvement League, the Eagles Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1400, Army-Navy Post 61, American Legion, and the Elks Club.
