Born in Kinderhook, IL the son of Edward and Emma (House) Anderson. Graduated from University of Colorado Law School, admitted to the Colorado and Montana Bar and began his law practice in Lewistown, MT in 1912. He was a Montana House of Representatives member from Fergus County in 1914 and served in the US Army during World War I. In 1929 he was named Lewistown City Attorney. He is credited with being the only lawyer in the state who argued 4 cases before the Montana Supreme Court in one day, on April 1, 1929, and won 3 of them. He was elected to that bench in 1932 and served until the expiration of his term in 1939.

He married his wife Laurette Kelly on Feb. 24, 1919 in Great Falls. They had no children.
