David Wills was one of Gettysburg's most prominent lawyers. He studied law under Thaddeus Stevens and was admitted to he Adams County Bar in 1854. Pehaps his most important accomplishment was coordinating the establishment of the Soldiers' National Cemetery in Gettysburg. Wills also had the honor of inviting President Abraham Lincoln to Gettysburg to make "a few appropriate remarks" at the dedication of the new cemetery. Little did he know that he was helping to shape the the greatest speech in American history.
