GREENVILLE ADVOCATE - 11MAY1961 - PHILIP STOECKLIN FOUND DEAD IN BARN NEAR HOME - SERVICES HELD TODAY FOR GREENVILLE FARMER
Philip H. Stoecklin, 52, well known Central Twp. farmer living 4 miles southwest of Greenville, was found dead in a barn on his farm Monday afternoon by his son, James shortly after 4 p.m., Monday. A 20-gauge double barrel shotgun was found beside the body, which he had apparently used to take his life by firing a charge into the heart region. Time of death was fixed at about 2 p.m., he having gone to the barn earlier in the afternoon, ostensibly to feed the hogs. Coroner H. Denny Donnell has not yet set a time for the inquest.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m., today at the Smith Grove Baptist church, the Rev. Robert Mallicoat of Franklin, KY, a former pastor at Smith Grove & the Rev. Donald Whitlock, the pastor, officiating. Interment was at Smith Grove cemetery. The Dewey & Sons Mortuary was in charge.
Philip Harold Stoecklin, son of the late Henry J. Stoecklin & Mrs. Anna (Smith) Stoecklin, was born in Bond Co. 26Jul1908, being aged 52 years, 9 months & 12 days. He had lived in Bond Co. all his life & followed farming pursuits. He was married in Greenville, 09Mar1929 to Miss Alma Koontz & she with 4 sons, survives. They are Donald of south of Greenville; Ronald of north of Greenville; & James & Paul at home. Also surviving are his mother, Mrs. Anna Stoecklin of this city, 1 sister, Iva, wife of Vernon Ohren of south of Greenville & 7 granchildren. A sister, Mrs. Louis G. Reitz, died 04Oct, last year & a brother, Eugene died on 12Nov1940. His father, died 09Oct1955.
Mr. Stoecklin was an elder in the Smith Grove church.
