JACOB DIERCKS
Jacob and Mettha Quast Diercks immigrated to America on May 7,1868. They left Hamburg, Germany on the ship Allemannia. Jacob, Mettha, and their two sons, John(1863) and Nicolaus(1866), went to Minnesota to Elk township in Murray county. Nicolaus died before the 1875 census was taken. Mettha died in March 1884 after having given birth to twins who also died.
Jacob was married to Anna Quast first who was Mettha's older sister. They had several children who remained in Germany when Jacob and Mettha left. Jacob was remarried to Mettha before 1862.
Jacob's parents were Claus and Mette Stoellcken Diercks according to a family tree on Familysearch.

In the Lyman County history book, Winds of Change, page 181, "Hjelmberg Family Connection" Jacob Diercks' story is told. Jacob and Mettha (Quast) Diercks children were Bertha, John J. and Herman. Jacob is buried in the Moeller Cemetery. About 1901 Herman and John went to Alberta, Canada. Father, son and Bertha had taken homesteads NW of Oacoma, where Ed and Bertha (Diercks) Werner lived. Jacob Diercks was the great-grandfather of LBGS member, Leola Peterson. Jacob was married to Mettha's sister Anna Quast and he married Mettha after Anna passed away. Mettha died in Minnesota in 1884 after giving birth to twins who also perished.
