__________

A relative, Balke A. Willey of Chicago sent the following information - The 1910 and 1920 census of Atlanta documents that she was living in Atlanta in the household of her sister, Cornelia F. Salkeld/Bowers and worked as a private nurse. Mary's ancestry on her mother's side is:

Mary B. Salkeld
Anna Caroline Gambee
Joseph Gambee
John Gambee
Jacob Gambee

John Gambee came originally from Hessen, Germany and was the first immigrant representative of the family settling in Pennsylvania and then in Seneca County, New york, where he raised a very large family and then died.

John Gambee, Mary B. Salkeld's ancestor, was a Revolutionary War veteran. He may have started out, like several thousand other Hessian mercenary soldiers, switched sides during the middle of the war fighting first for the British, of course, and then for the Americans.
