Bessie Silvers, age 92, of the Bakers Creek Community, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Sam and Addie King Silvers and wife of the late John "J.D." Silvers, who passed away in 2010. She was also preceded in death by sisters: Florence Higgins, Loise Silvers, Vaudie Silvers and Mildred Tucker and brothers: Lawrence Silvers, Ray Silvers and Vance Silvers. She was a member of Rolling Hill Baptist Church. Bessie was a loving mother and mother-in-law who enjoyed her many cats, canning and gardening.

Surviving is her son, Billy Silvers and wife, Lillian, of Burnsville; brother, Ward Silvers and wife, Jean, of Jacks Creek; special niece, Sandra Kosderka of Florida . Several other nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, January 15th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Danny Silvers and Rev. Marvin Silvers will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6 until 7 p.m. prior to the funeral service at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday in Academy Hill Cemetery.
