Reno Evening Gazette, 3/23/1906:

Fatal Fight in Manhattan Saloon.
Manhattan, nev., March 23. - McCormick, the man who shot and killed David Alpine during a fight in a saloon, will be held to answer before the grand jury. Alpine lingered for twenty-four hours and as soon as he died a charge of murder was lodged against his slayer.

There is much feeling over the affair. Alpine, who is from Elko, had cashed a $60 check for McCormick. Next morning when he went tot he bank he encountered McCormick, who had just drawn out every cent that he had on deposit. Alpine asked him to take up his paper and McCormick refused.

The two men left the bank quarreling violently and retired to the rear of a saloon to talk further. There a fight ensued, in which Alpine was shot twice, once in the shoulder and once in the back, the latter being a fatal wound.

Mrs. Wilkinson, a brother of Alpine will arrive here from Elko this evening to take charge of the remains.
