James was the son of Isaac Russell & Mary Jones. His parents came across the plains with the Brigham Young wagon train. He grew up in Salt Lake City.
He married Ida Neff in 1890. She died in 1901. He then married Eliza Duncan in 1908. They had 3 children together.
James was very close to his mother. She died when he was 12 years old. He also was close to his sisters Hannah & Mary.
He was a farmer in East Millcreek, UT. He served a mission in the southern states from 1896 to 1898.
By all accounts, he was a good husband & provider for his family.
His tombstone says his birth year was 1849, but death cert & other records say 1848.
He is buried beside his first wife Ida in Salt Lake City Cemetery.
