Kenneth E. “Kenny” Baker Sr., 74, of Bedford, passed away at 6:58 a.m. on Monday at his residence.
Born Jan. 31, 1940, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Millard Baker and Pearl (Voorhies) Baker. He married Wanda Lee Farris on Jan. 22, 1960; and she survives.
He retired from Laborers Local Union No. 741, in Bloomington. He was a member of the local Union No. 741. Kenneth was a veteran of the United States Army.
He loved being in the woods, hunting mushrooms, ginseng, and yellow root. He was the rock of his family, and he raised and spoiled lots of children and grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife, Wanda of Bedford; one son, Joseph M. Baker of Bedford; nine grandchildren, Ricky (Robin) Holmes, Eric (Cherie) Holmes, Sarita Holt, Timber (Noah) Browning, Tonya Feathers, LaCosta (Ryan) Eads, Cody (Nicki) Baker, Kortney Baker, and Heather (Gery) Davis; 18 great-grandchildren, Tyler, Cruz, C’Aira, Celina, Emma, Bella, Bear, Tyson, Cheyenne, Shaylynn, LaKota, LaKeylah, Jasmine, Rylan, Aaliyah, Sylas, Sebastian, and Kaysen; one sister, Reva (Dale) Monday; two brothers, Jimmy Baker and Joe (Mary) Baker; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four children (Wanda Baker, Kenny Baker Jr., Tony Baker, and Suzann Holt), and eight brothers and sisters.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home with Sister Becky Ryan officiating. Burial will be in House of Prayer Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
