William Lee Alexander, Sr., age 81, of Spartanburg, SC, died Wednesday, May 3, 2006, at Mary Black Memorial Hospital.


Born December 23, 1924, in Charlotte, NC, son of Jacob "Jake" Alexander (1895–1973) and Elizabeth (Lee) Alexander; husband of Doris Louise Outen Alexander (1928–2020).


A graduate of Central High School in Charlotte, a sales representative for Williams and Shelton with forty years of service, owned and operated the Toy Department at the Aug W. Smith Department Store; a member of Morningside Baptist Church, a Mason, a past Master of St. John Masonic Lodge #333, and a U.S. Navy Veteran and a Normandy D-Day participant at Utah Beach and earned two battle stars.


Survivors include sons, William Lee Alexander, Jr. (Karen) and Richard Lynn Alexander (April); daughter, Lynda Jean Alexander; sister, Jean Gaskins; one granddaughter; three grandsons; and a great-grandson.


Graveside services were held at 11:00 am, Saturday, May 6, 2006, at Elmwood Cemetery in Charlotte, NC, conducted by the Rev. Ralph Brown.


Memorials could be made to Interim Hospice, Spartanburg, SC; or to Mobile Meals Service, Spartanburg, SC.
