Mother of 12, 10 lived til adulthood, Dovie was a farmer's wife of many talents. Her lifetime spanned through a time that saw the first in home electricity, the first automobiles, the first indoor bathrooms, woodstove to electric, wash tub to washing machines, 2 great world wars, the great depression, and the beginnings of the space age. Her homesteading talents of necessity and interest held her family together. She was an excellent seamstress, had chickens, a milk cow, hogs, and an extensive garden. She made her own soap, butter, smoked meat and canned goods. She loved to fish and had a pond at both of her adult residences. She could shoot a copperhead or water moccasin off the pond waters surface from a considerable distance with a 22 rifle- 1 shot. She had a green thumb and her flowers and house plants were beautiful. She quilted wedding quilts for most of her many grandchildren from fabric important in their childhoods. She is remembered as both a realist, and loving.
