Doris was born and raised in Springfield, Missouri, the youngest of six children. She was a devoted stay-at-home mom who not only made her own clothes, but her children’s clothes; shirts and jackets for her husband and son and beautiful prom, wedding and bridesmaid’s dresses for her daughters. Doris was a Girl Scout Brownie leader and active in PTA. When her children were grown, she taught sewing classes for Singer and did alterations at a taylor's shop. After retirement, she was generous with her time and talents, volunteering at a local thrift shop, crisis hotline and woman's shelter.

Doris is preceded in death by her mother, Bertha George; father, John Hinds and husband, Wayne Stebbins. She is survived by her four children: Barbara Blackburn of North Hills California, Richard Stebbins of Simi Valley California, Kathy Hall of Franktown Colorado and Suzanne Frew of Santa Paula California; nine grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
