Funeral services for Laverne Haley Miller, 86, of Wills Point, are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 24, 2015 at the Wills Point Church of Christ with Mr. Russell Harris officiating. Interment will follow at Grove Hill Memorial Park in Dallas at 2:00 p.m. She passed away Wednesday afternoon, January 21, 2015, in Wills Point. Laverne was born January 30, 1928 in Santa Rita, Texas, the daughter of Henry Daniel Haley and Ollie Mae Murdock Haley. She was raised in Irving and graduated from Irving High School. Laverne attended U.T. Arlington and Draughn's Business College. She married Leonard Bates and after his death she later married George Miller. She was employed by Arthur Young as a secretary, retiring in 1990. Laverne lived in Dallas prior to moving to Wills Point in 2005. She enjoyed quilting and genealogy. Laverne was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution. She was also a former member of the South MacArthur Church of Christ in Irving, Highland Oaks Church of Christ in Dallas and a current member of the Wills Point Church of Christ. Preceded in death by her parents and two husbands, Leonard Bates and George Miller. Laverne is survived by her sister, Gloria Harmon & husband, Jim, of Wills Point; two nephews, Jimmy R. Harmon, of Grand Prairie and Gregory P. Harmon, of Grand Prairie; great-niece, Lacey Johnson, of Richardson and great-nephew, Ethan J. Harmon, of Frisco. Family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to service.
