While sick with T.B., he was issued a furlough on Feb. 1, 1862, to convalesce at his home in Newburgh Twp., near Cleveland. He was to report back to Camp Buell in Boyd County, KY, by March 1. However, he was too sick to return and died at his home. He, and his wife, Louisa Ellen Stone (nee Cannell) had no children. They had been married Oct. 1, 1861 in Cuyahoga County, Ohio. Louisa applied for a widow's pension, March 20, 1862, which was issued as Certificate #1899 but revoked when she remarried to James S. Jenkins, Sept. 4, 1866. She and James had two sons who died at very young ages and one daughter who lived into adulthood. Louisa remarried, to James S. Jenkins, Sept. 4, 1866, consequently losing her widow's pension. She and James S. Jenkins divorced April 27, 1894, in California. She returned to Cleveland where she lived at 1972 Woodland Hills Ave. in Cleveland when she reapplied for her widow's pension but not until July 3, 1904. She lived in Cleveland, sometimes with her married daughter until her death in 1928. Her pension file on the Fold 3 website does not indicate whether her pension was restored.
