James Emmitt McCathern Sr., 97, of West Gate Nursing Home, died Friday in Hereford Regional Medical Center.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday in Rose Chapel of Gililland-Watson Funeral Home with the Rev. Lanny Wheeler, chaplain of Kings Manor, officiating.
Burial will be in West Park Cemetery under direction of Gililland-Watson Funeral Home.
The family will be at 400 Elm and 419 Centre.
He was born Dec. 22, 1896, in Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma. He married Mae Cleveland on Jan. 6, 1920, in Oklahoma. She died Aug. 13, 1976. He then married Louise Browning on March 14, 1978, in Aransas Pass. He moved to Deaf Smith County in 1947 from Pampa. He was a welder and farmer. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War I. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, J.E. McCathern Jr. and Gerald, both of Hereford; a daughter, Peggy Lillard of Borger; two stepsons, Kenneth Browning of Washington State and Fred Browning of Hobbs, N.M.; two stepdaughters, Georgia Johnson of Pampa and Joy Hurst of Stillwater, Okla.; two brothers, Andrew of Hereford and Rufus of Pampa; three sisters, Cleo Ferguson and Teba Pfiles, both of Pampa, and Gladys Myers of Exeter, Calif.; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Grandsons and great-grandsons will be pallbearers.
