Barbara Elaine Mohr, 65, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on Monday, January 12, 2015, at the comfort of her own home.

Funeral services for Barbara will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2015, at the Ferguson Bible Church. Public visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 16, 2015, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home, where her family will be present to greet friends. Memorial contributions may be directed in Barbara’s name to her family.

Barbara Elaine Mohr passed away unexpectedly Monday, January 11th, 2015 at her home near Ferguson, Iowa. She was born November 14th, 1949, the 3rd of 6 children, and the oldest daughter, to John and Phyllis Mohr in Marshalltown.

She attended kindergarten through sixth grade at Ferguson and seventh through graduation in 1967 from LDF of LeGrand. In high school she participated in music and sports. She was a Ta-Ma-Ja Conference 1st Team All-Conference Guard and played for Chuck Pfaffle and CJ “Whitey’ Lorwald. She attended Marshalltown Community College and then UNI and graduated in 1971 with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught for 15 years at LDF and touched the lives of many students. Barbara attended Sunday school and church at Ferguson Bible Church and sang in the many Christmas and Easter cantatas directed by Deloris Zesch.

She married Tom Allen in 1980 and had three children; Jony, Tedd, and Buck. She and her dad, John Mohr, witnessed Tedd win the 800 and distance medley relay in Class 2A at the State Track Meet in 2001. One of her proudest moments was seeing all three of her children enlist in the US Navy to serve our country.

Barbara was noted for her baking skills and twice won the National Pillsbury Dessert competition with her famous Ferguson Chocolate Pie and her Killer Cream Puffs. Her desserts were always the highlight of family gatherings. She assisted her father in his late years as a caregiver and was assisting her mother, Phyllis, as her taxi driver to church, Sparks’ breakfasts and shopping in town.

Surviving are her three children, Jony Allen of Hastings, MN, and Tedd and Buck Allen of San Diego, CA, Tom Allen of Haverhill, IA, Casey Allen of Ankeny, IA, her mother Phyllis Mohr and siblings David (Sandy) Mohr, Linda (Rod)Harrison, Joan Mohr, Karen (Dave) Eggert and many wonderful Sparks family and Mohr family relatives.

Barbara is preceded in death by her father, John Mohr, and brother, Michael.

Funeral services for Barbara Mohr, of Ferguson, were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 17, 2015, at the Ferguson Bible Church with Pastor Darren Young officiating. Special music was offered by Deloris Zesch, Scott Smith and Melanie Bell.

Sarah Eggert, Jeremy Ferneau, Jaek Runner, Amanda Mohr, Christina Ohrt and Mark Krough served as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers were Michael and Joanna Eggert, Jon Richardson, Stacey Ohrt, Bryce Kubli, nick Patrick, Deidra Mohr, Michelle Benner Henze, Bill Sparks, Lynne Marie Ganske, Douglas Sparks, Tom Sparks and Bob German.

Guests were in attendance from East Marshall Schools, Ferguson Bible Church and LDF Schools.

Barbara was laid to rest in Timber Creek Cemetery near Ferguson.
