Services for Robert Holloway Jr., 80, a lifelong Wilson resident, were held Tuesday, August 13, in the First Baptist Church of Wilson, with the Rev. John Allen and the Rev. Monte Dean officiating.
Mr. Holloway as born July 31, 1922, in Wilson, the son of Robert and Mae "Moon" Holloway. He died Sunday, August 11, 2002, in Ardmore.
Raised south of Wilson, Mr. Holloway attended school at Bryan Red. He and the former Gladys Belle Wood were married April 25, 1945, at Wilson and have made their home and raised their family there since that time. Mr. Holloway worked in the oil fields of Southern Oklahoma, was a carpenter and an airplane mechanic. He had served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, and was a member of the VFW Post #0231 of Wilson. Mr. Holloway had served on both the public school boards of Rexroat and Wilson. He was a member of Rexroat Baptist Church since 1951, where he had served as a deacon for the past 43 years, as well as Sunday School superintendent.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Gladys Holloway of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby C. and Sandra Holloway of Townsville, South Carolina, and Bill and Jacqueline Holloway of Lone Grove; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sue Hawkins and Rick Merritt of Weatherford, Texas, Jean and Darrell Farrell of Wilson, and Joann Way of Wilson; three brothers, A.B. Perkins of Cleburne, Texas, Jack Holloway of Waller, Texas, and Lealon Holloway of Enid; two sisters, Elvia Bishop of Wilson and Martha Sides of Marietta; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Holloway was preceded in death by his father, Robert Holloway in 1950; his mother, Mae Moon Holloway in 1962; a granddaughter, Shanda Rae-ann Way in 1988; a great-granddaughter, Callie KayLin Fulton in 2001; two sons-in-law, Jim Hawkins in 1985, and Danny Way in 1999; six brothers and sisters, R.D. Holloway, Alice Scoggins, Idella Davis, Maggie Loard, Lucille Lowry and Robbie Maxwell; and 12 half brothers and sisters.
Pallbearers were the men of his Sunday School class, Bennie Cartwright, Dave Norton, James Gardner, Jim Brooks, Mark Wilson, E.J. Flowers and Dennis Webb.
Interment was in the Hewitt Cemetery, Wilson, under the direction of Alexander Funeral Home, Wilson.
