E. F. HUDSON DIES SUDDENLY WHILE ON DUTY


Mr. Edward Franklin Hudson, Sr. night patrolman for the City of Pascagoula, died suddenly Tuesday morning at 2:30 o'clock at the Louisville & Nashville passenger depot where he had gone on rounds in line of duty. His death is supposed to have been caused by heart disease, and he died in a few minutes after he was stricken but shortly after his son E.F. Hudson, Jr. and medical aid had been summoned. His passing was a severe shock to relatives and friends as he had apparently been in good health, and had only a few hours before the attack, performed work in connection with his official duties.


Mr. Hudson was born in Louisville, Miss, 66 years ago, and resided there until 1881, when he came to Pascagoula in the employ of Louisville & Nashville Railroad. He served the City of Pascagoula as a marshal for several terms and also was a Jackson County deputy sheriff at different times. the funeral was conducted Wednesday afternoon from the family home at 443 Porter Street, with the Rev. Father B. O'Reilly officiating, and in the presence of a large number of relatives and friends. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery.


Jackson County Sheriff's Department and Pascagoula City Hall were CLOSED Wednesday, October 3, 1923 from 9:30 to 1:30 o'clock IN RESPECT to the man who had served so faithfully as an officer.


Surviving Mr. Hudson are his wife, Elizabeth and 5 children; E.F. Hudson, Jr, E.R. Hudson, J.B. Hudson of Pascagoula, A. L. Schmidt of Mobile, H.A. Hudson, of Tyrone, New Mexico. He also leaves one brother C.H. Hudson of Pascagoula and one sister Lizzie Hudson of Louisville, Miss. besides a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 4 sons; E. A. Hudson, C. V. Hudson, F. J. Hudson, and R. L. Hudson.

E.F. HUDSON OF PASCAGOULA DIES -- Edward Franklin Hudson Sr., 66 years old, died yesterday morning at his home on Porter Street from a sudden attack of heart disease. The funeral will be held this afternoon with interment at Greenwood cemetery Mr. Hudson has been employed as night policeman for some time and in the years past served as marshal and also as deputy sheriff. He is survived by his wife and five children; E.F. Hudson Jr., E. R. Hudson, J.P. Hudson of Pascagoula, H.A. Hudson of Tyrone, New Mexico, and Mrs. Alma Schmidt of Mobile; also a sister, Miss. Lizzie Hudson of Louisville, Miss., and one brother, C.H. Hudson of Pascagoula.



EDWARD FRANKLIN HUDSON was born to William Beasley & Emaline Elizabeth (Woodruff) Hudson, July 5, 1856 in Louisville, Ms. He had 4 brothers; Wiliam, James, Robert, and Charles; he also had 2 sisters; Elizabeth and Martha.


He married "Lizzie" (SANTO) Domingo on October 20, 1885 in Pascagoula, Ms. Together they had nine children, Edward F., Jr, Charles V., Emil A., Harry A., Alma L., Eugene R., James B., Frank J., and Ralph L. Hudson.
