Annelies Burks, 88, of Oklahoma City, passed away quietly into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday January 2, 2015.

She was born on May 19, 1926, in Daglfing, Munich, Germany, to Karl Wilhelm Kammuller and Barbara Eichberger.

Annelies was a loving wife, Mom and Oma.

She was blessed with a friendly and fun-loving nature and a warm and genuine smile.

Annelies grew up in Munich with her mother, father, and brother, Karl. She also spent part of her youth in beautiful Penzberg, Germany, deep in southern Bavaria near the foothills of the Alps, where she was surrounded by her grandparents, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. It was during a time when coal mining was active in that area. She survived the lean years of World War II. During and after the war, Annelies received training and did clerical work.

In 1948, she came to America, initially living and working in Massachusetts. After a few years, she decided to accompany a friend who was relocating, and moved to Oklahoma.

Her clerical training allowed her to get a job working at the City National Bank in downtown Oklahoma City.

In 1952, Annelies became a citizen of the United States.

Also In 1952, Annelies met and married Dr. John Hatchett Clymer, of Oklahoma City. The two first met at Bishop's - a popular downtown restaurant - thanks to the introduction of a waitress who knew them both. On the day they met, John went to his mother and told her, "I have met the girl I am going to marry!" And so they did.

Annelies and John had two sons: first, John David; and then, Ronald Keith.

During their twenty years of marriage, Annelies and Dr. John were avid ballroom dancers, bowlers and bridge players.

Annelies became a widow in 1973, when Dr. John Clymer died suddenly.

In 1974, Annelies married Herschel Quinton Burks, of Oklahoma City.

Herschel was a Sales Manager for United Auto Supply, and then took his talent to Atlantic Pacific Automotive in 1978. He was active in his Christian life, and Annelies was drawn to his spiritual leadership.

Annelies and Herschel were members of Metropolitan Baptist Church, where Annelies volunteered in the library for many years.

She and Herschel loved to travel. They often went to Arkansas to vacation and visit family, and also traveled to Alaska, Germany and Europe.

Annelies was widowed again in 2003, when Herschel went to join his Savior.

Annelies returned regularly to Germany to spend time visiting her large family and many friends.

She loved collecting and listening to the German music that she grew up with, and collecting the art and keepsakes that reminded her of her first home.

Her favorite times of the year were always Thanksgiving and Christmas, when family and friends would come from near and far to join in her fantastic cooking, football and family fun. Everyone especially remembers her potato salad at Christmas, which had no equal in this world.

Annelies had many hobbies and talents. She was an expert seamstress, and did knitting and needlepoint in her spare time. She also enjoyed tole painting and gardening. Her gardens always had color, regardless of season. Her love for color was also evident in the way she dressed and decorated her home.

Another of her hobbies was bargain hunting. Annelies loved to shop, and was often joined in this by her friends, daughters, and nieces.

Annelies is survived by two children: her son, ______ and wife ______, their son ______, ______'s son ______ and wife ______; and her son, ______ and wife ______, along with their children, ______, ______ and ______.

She is also survived by her brother, ______, his wife ______ and their daughter ______ (all from Germany); and by ______s' three children: ______ of Sarasota, FL; ______ and her son ______, both of Boston, MA; and ______, of Stillwater, OK; by his granddaughter, ______, of Edmond; and by great-grandson, ______.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 7, 2015, and from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 8, 2015, at Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 9, 2015, at 1 p.m. at Memorial Park Historic Cemetery Chapel, with interment following in Memorial Park Cemetery.
