Henry was the son of Casper Grube and Sarah Sellers, who married circa 1834, likely in Pennsylvania where their first two children were born. I found five children for them, but there may have been more—Daniel S. (13 Sep 1835 PA), Peter I. (Oct 1836 PA), Sarah A. (c.1840 OH), Henry Samuel (1843 OH), and Hannah (3 Mar 1849 OH).

In December of 1835, the family moved from Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania to Akron, Summit Co., Ohio. I found a 1940 Census with Casper Grube listed as head of household. There were six members noted, their genders and ages matching Casper, Sarah and their children with the exception of a male between the ages of 10 and 14 that I couldn't account for.

Circa 1847, the family again relocated, this time to Indiana. I found them on the 1850 Census, living in Plymouth (mistakenly noted as "My Division"), Marshall Co., Indiana. Casper Grube (Kroop on the record), aged 41, was farming for a living. Sarah, aged 46, was home with their five children—Daniel, aged 15, Peter, aged 14, Sarah, aged 10, Henry, aged 7, and Hannah, aged 1.

When the 1860 Census came around, they were living in Plymouth's West Township. Casper, aged 49, was a farmer. Sarah, aged 56, was home with their four children--Daniel, aged 24, Peter, aged 23, Henry, aged 15, and Hannah, aged 11. Daughter Sarah had married John Seider on 24 Jul 1957 in Marshall County.

Henry married Sarah A. Myers on 28 Mar 1869 in Marshall County, Indiana. The couple had three children together—Clinton H. (1871 IN - 1954), Dora M. (1872 IN - 1945), and Oron Albertus (1876 IN - 1929).

I found the newlyweds on the 1870 Census, living in West Township (today part of Plymouth), Marshall Co., Indiana. Henry, aged 27, was a farmer like his father. Sarah, aged 28, was keeping house. Clinton was still just a twinkle in his father’s eye, but he would join his parents in August the following year. Dora would follow in 1872, and Oron in 1876.

In 1880, the family was zoned into Green Township (Argos area), Marshall County. Henry, aged 36, was busy farming. Sarah, aged 40, was busy at home with their three children—Clinton, aged 8, Dora, aged 7, and Oron, aged 3.

Henry and Sarah's children married. Son Clinton married Grace B. Sarber on 20 May 1900 in Marshall County. Grace was the daughter of Perry E. Sarber and Eliza J. Smith. After they married, the newlyweds moved in with Henry and Sarah. They all appeared together on the 1900 Census, living in Plymouth's West Township. Henry, aged 56, was busy with the farm. Sarah, aged 59, reported that she had had three children, and that all three had survived to that census. Clinton, aged 28, along with his new bride Grace, aged 22, Dora, aged 27, and Oron, aged 23, were all there. Clinton and Oron had become school teachers. To help out with the chores, the family had a live-in servant girl, 18-year-old Maud Lowry.

Later that same year, Henry and Sarah's daughter Dora married John J. Kleimer on 5 Dec 1900 in Cuyahoga Co., Ohio. John was the son of Mathias Kleimer and Margaretha Bresner.

Five years after that son Oron married Anna Louise Stockman on 13 Sep 1905. Anna was the daughter of George Stockman and Sarah Alice Nolan.

When the 1910 Census came around, Henry and Sarah's nest was empty. Henry, aged 66, was still actively farming. Sarah, aged 71, again reported that all three of her children were among the living.

Sadly, three years after that census, Sarah died in 1913 at age 73 or 74.

I found Henry in 1920, widowed, aged 76, living with daughter Dora and her husband John Kleimer in Cleveland, Cuyahoga Co., Ohio, where John, aged 53, was a policeman for the city of Cleveland. Dora, aged 47, was keeping house. They do not appear to have had any children. Henry's surname was transcribed as "Trude" rather than "Grube".

In 1929, Henry and children Clinton and Dora would receive the terrible news that both Oron and his wife Anna had died within four days of each other, Anna form uterine cancer and Oron from nephritis. He was about 53, Anna about 50.

In 1930, Henry showed up, widowed, aged 86, living with son Clinton and daughter-in-law Grace living on Plum St. in Plymouth. He was designated as a lodger, rather than as the father of head-of-household Clinton for some reason. Daughter Dora and husband John Kleimer were also living in Plymouth that year. John, aged 62, was the proprietor of a filling station.

A year after that census, Henry died in 1831 at age 88, and was laid to rest next to Sarah, his companion of forty four years.
