Ruth A. (Alderfer) Rush - 96, of Souderton, PA; formerly of Quakertown, PA went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at Souderton Mennonite Homes.
She was the loving wife of the late Paul D. Rush for 55 years. Ruth was born in Souderton, PA to the late Allen & Katie (Freed) Alderfer.
She graduated from Eastern Mennonite High School in Harrisonburg, VA, class of 1944. Ruth then attended Grand View Hospital School of Nursing for 3 years, graduating valedictorian in 1947. She was employed as a Registered Nurse for Dr. Francis Souder and then for Dr. Philip Delong, both in Telford in their medical practice as well as various retirement homes in the Quakertown area. Ruth was a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher and was part of the ladies sewing circle at Salem Mennonite Church in Shelly, PA. She was on the Parents-Teachers Committee at Quakertown Christian School and frequently made food for the annual charity auction. Ruth was a quilter and enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking, and sewing.
She was survived by four step-sons, James Rush & wife, Geraldine of Harrisonburg, VA, John Rush & wife, Esther of Reading, PA, Paul Rush & wife, Alice of Quakertown, PA, Marcus Rush & wife, Debra of Quakertown, PA; a son, Philip J. Rush & wife, Deborah of Quakertown, PA; eleven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and a sister, Irene F. Alderfer of Souderton, PA.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by five sisters, Alice F. Landis, Eva F. Geissinger, Mary Ann Swartley, Orpha F. Kolb, Margaret F. Alderfer and two brothers, Frank F. & Titus F. Alderfer.
A funeral service was held on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Souderton Mennonite Homes, 207 W. Summit Street, Souderton, PA. Burial was at Deep Run Mennonite Cemetery East.
