James was the son of John Matthew & Sarah (Moody) Allen. He married Georgia A. Sapp on July 18, 1883 in Pierce Co., Georgia.

DEATH OF J. W. ALLEN, PIERCE COUNTY
Nahunta, Ga., Feb. 14, 1936 (Blackshear, Ga., Feb. 10). J. W. Allen, aged 70 years, died Saturday near Blackshear, after a long illness. Mr. Allen was born in Pierce County in 1859 and had been a prosperous farmer and leader in his church and community. For thirty-five years he had been a member of the Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church. Funeral services were held at 10 o'clock at the Shiloh Church, Rev. Frank Jones of Lulaton, officiating. Mr. Allen is survived by his wife, who before her marriage was Miss Georgia Sapp; one daughter, Mrs. D. A. Smith, of Blackshear; seven sons, J. R. Allen, W. L. D. Allen, S. W. Allen, a. H. Allen, and F. J. Allen, of Blackshear, and H. H. Allen, of Waycross, and N. J. Allen of Jacksonville, Fla.; one sister, Mrs. A. M. Dixon, of Blackshear; also thirty three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. (Contributed by Jerry Van Herrin)
