Jae Kelly Baxter
1957 - 2015

Early Life: Jae was born on September 10, 1957, in Provo, Utah, to Calvin J. "Cal" and Orissa "Rae" Wright Baxter. He was raised in Springville, Utah, graduating in 1975 from Springville High School where he was active in athletics and academics.
Life's Work/Service/Interests: Following high school, Jae enrolled at Brigham Young University and graduated in 1978 with a degree in chemistry. He then attended Cornell Medical School and graduated in 1982. During medical school, Jae married Christine Bird on March 6, 1980. They were later sealed in the Manti Utah LDS Temple on September 8, 1989. Jae and Christine’s first home was in New York City for medical school. Upon graduation, they moved to Sacramento, California, where Jae completed his residency at Cal Davis specializing in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Following residency, they moved to Claremore, Oklahoma, where Jae fulfilled his three-year Civil Service commitment that he had incurred to finance medical school. They then relocated to Utah for Jae’s first job, settling back where they began in Springville, Utah, home of family, friends and a favorite golf course. Once in Utah County, Jae established a private OB/GYN practice. Several years ago, he joined the staff at Intermountain Healthcare where he practiced until his death. During his years in practice, Jae delivered over 7,000 babies. He enjoyed and was grateful for the doctors, nurses and staff that he practiced with over the years. He was most proud of his three daughters: Katie, Amy and Kellie. He was a loving and engaged father who stressed the importance of education and self-reliance. His role as dad included coaching the girls in sports, chauffeuring teenage girl shopping trips, and bringing home late night treats. He was the consummate concierge for the girls on family trips. Jae knew the location of the best restaurants in every town in which he lived or visited. His close friends and family all agree that “The Doc” was one of a kind. He was known for his classic sayings, generosity, fun-filled Primary classes, never ending quest to find bargains, love of golf, work ethic, vacation planning skills, sense of humor, marathon World of Warcraft sessions and consistent good nature – even if he was playing bad golf. Jae was always open, genuine, and could strike up a conversation with anyone. “The Doc” can never be replaced and will be greatly missed. Jae Kelly Baxter passed away January 15, 2015, as a result of a heart attack.
