Grady C. Bagby, 90, of Temple, died Tuesday, January 13, 2015. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m., Saturday, January 17, 2015, at the Scanio-Harper funeral home to be followed by the funeral at 2 p.m. The burial will follow in Bellwood Memorial Park.

Grady was born in Blanco, Texas, to the late Roy and Peggy Bagby. He served as a radioman in the U.S. Navy’s admiral staff on the Marshall islands during World War II. Grady spent 32 years in the Texas Highway Patrol after returning from a professional heavyweight boxing career in New York City. He was an outstanding officer well known for a no-nonsense way of handling business. He retired from the highway patrol in 1982 and earned his broker’s license in real estate. He lived a humble and God-driven life. His faith and discipline has trickled through generations. Grady loved his family, lifting weights, had a lighthearted sense of humor, and a good slice of pie.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Leroy and Roland.

Survivors include his wife, Bess Bagby; daughters, Sherry Bagby, and Suanne Smedley and husband, Matthew; son, Grady Don Bagby and wife, Laurie; grandchildren, Josh Bagby, Ben Bagby, Jacob Smedley, and Anna Smedley; brothers, Chester Bagby and wife, Billye, of Lampasas, and Tommy Bagby and wife, Penny, of Round Rock.
