Rose Meade Thorn was the daughter of Peter and Elizabeth Thorn, caretakers of Evergreen Cemetery. Rose was born on November 1st of that year, 18 days before the dedication of the National Cemetery. Her middle name, Meade, was given in honor of General Meade, Commander of the Army of the Potomac during the battle.
