Adelbert Ephriam Bass, 89, a long time resident of the area, died early last evening at the Bevin's Rest Home in Clarksburg, where he had been a patient the past month.

Mr. Bass was born in Cohoes, N. Y., but had lived most of his life in this city and Clarksburg. He was for many years employed in the engraving department of the old Arnold Print Works in this city. Later he worked for a few years at the Sprague Electric Co. and had retired 20 years ago. During the police strike in Boston in 1919, he served in the Massachusetts State Guard.

A member of the First Baptist Church, he was long a member of Oneco Lodge of Odd Fellows, and was elected chief patriarch of Wells Encampment, IOOF, in 1954. He also was a member and past officer of Hoosac Lodge, New England Order of Protection.

His first wife, the former Lela Card, died in 1928. Later he married her sister, the former Nellie Card, who died in 1960.

He leaves five sons, Harold of Valley Falls, N.Y., Charles and Arthur of Clarksburg, and Robert and Raymond Bass of North Adams; five grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m., at the Simmons Funeral Home with the Rev. Orvel E. Hooker, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the family lot in Southview Cemetery.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. today, and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.
