Gerald Dean Hoff passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 11, 2015.

Jerry was born in Leola, SD Nov. 5, 1927, the third child of Henry and Edna (Heihn) Hoff. He served his country faithfully as a Maritime Service member (during WW II), a US Army teletype specialist, and a USAF communications Chief Master Sergeant. Jerry's extensive military service took him around the world to fascinating & dangerous locales--from avoiding German submarines in the North Sea to brief imprisonment by Col Muammar Gaddafi in Libya to witnessing nuclear bomb testing on Eniwetok Island in the South Pacific, Jerry's life was adventurous and exciting from the very beginning. In later years, he had to be content with extensive duty (12 years) in the Philippines at Clark Air Base which served as a launch point for frequent forays into South East Asia where he installed and monitored high security communications.

Upon military retirement Jerry was so busy, he was overheard to say "Now that I'm retired, I don't get any days off". And so it was--Jerry ran the recreational boat rental shop at Eglin AFB for many years until retiring again to help his soul mate create and run a successful business ("Alyce's Floral Design") here in Ft. Walton Bch. Finally in 1993, Jerry retired from formal work so he and Alyce could fish, garden, garage sale, babysit grandkids, and travel across the country to see family and friends. Jerry was always ready to entertain any and all house guests as he loved to tell jokes and stories of his most interesting life. He will be greatly missed.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, wife Alyce, and five siblings--Margret Schulz, Leslie Hoff, Harvey Hoff, Shirley Gobel, and Donna Hanson. Jerry will continue to be cherished by brother Lavoid Hoff; Kim, Victoria, and Michael Hoff, and their mother Betty Hoff; as well as step-sons Wayne, Rick, and Russell Maricle. Additionally, the wonderful memories he left for his 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews will also be fondly remembered.

Funeral services with Elder Roger O'Neal of the Community of Christ Church presiding will be held Saturday, Jan 17, 2015 at 11:00 AM with visitation at 10:00 AM at Emerald Coast Funeral Home, 113 Racetrack Road NE, Ft. Walton Beach, FL, with interment immediately after the service at Beal Memorial Cemetery. Clinton and Aaron Colbert; Michael and Randy Hoff; and Mark and Russell Maricle will serve as pall bearers.

The family would like to thank the Okaloosa County sheriff department's 1st responders for their compassionate & attentive actions on the day of Gerald's passing.
