Chesley was the son of George and Josephine (Shrewsbury) Walker.

Chesley was brother to:

1. Grover Lee Walker
2. John Holley Keaton Walker
3. Clowney Otto Walker
4. Kelley Columbus Walker
5. Stralie Walker (has library branch in Shady Spring, WVA named for him)
6. Bernie Lambert Walker
7. Alvie Walker
8. Lindell Deverr Walker
9. Daley Dayton Walker

Chesley married Rose Cole on February 11, 1914. The couple rode by horseback to the home of Preacher M. Isaac Griffith for the marriage ceremony. Rosa died of the Spanish Influenza in 1919. She is buried in the Odd Cemetery, Odd, WVA.

Chess worked for a time at the Pickshin Mine, operating a hoist truck that carried supplies, and men, to the top of the mountain. He was also a peace officer on the Stonecoal Gulf in the late 1930's and early 1940's.

Chess worked in a defense plant in Baltimore, Maryland during World War II.

Chess and Rosa were the parents of three children:

1. Arlene Wanetha Walker (1915-1986)
2. Ardith Elaine Walker (1917-
3. Rosa Nell Walker, (1919-1919), died in infancy

Chess next married Martha Ethel Massie on April 26, 1920, by Preacher A.H. Matheny. They were the parents of three children:

1. James Edgar Walker (19211-1988)
2. Chesley Calvin Walker, Jr. (1922 -)
3. Iona Athena Walker (1924 -)

Chess and Martha later divorced and Chess married Raenell Lilly. There were no children of this marriage.
