Services for J.E. Carter, 78, were Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in the Lakeland Baptist Church, Lewisville, Texas, with Rev. Ben Smith officiating.
Born December 23, 1916, at Burneyville, Mr. Carter died January 20, 1995, in Carrollton, Texas. He had made his home in Gainesville, Texas, for 20 years before moving to Lewisville where he worked for the Lewisville Independent School District from 1978 to 1989. Mr. Carter served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of Lakeland Baptist Church and the American Legion, both in Lewisville. He married the former Juanita Barnard May 16, 1936 in Ardmore.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Juanita Carter of the home in Lewisville; two daughters, Marquita Patterson of Bartonville, Texas, and Judy Talley of Carrollton; a brother, Bill Carter of Marietta; two sisters, Sally T. Wright of Plano, Texas, and Olita Dodson of Austin, Texas; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving are cousins, Alice Townsend, Jake Gordon, Euna Jane White and Paul Townsend of Love County; Maxie Gordon, Beryle Moore and James H. Carter of Carter County; and Frankie Lemon of Gainesville.
Services were under the direction of Dalton & Son Funeral Home of Lewisville with interment in Old Hall Cemetery, Lewisville.
