Born to James Levi Moore, Sr. (1800-1885) & his first wife, Sarah Ann Cobb Moore (1809-1850), both of South Carolina.

Sarah married Alexander Davis (1822–1895) on Dec. 23, 1850, in Lawrence County, MS. The family was living there in 1860.

Twelve children:

• William "Commodore" Davis (1855–1926)
