Cecil Goutermout, Copenhagen, Dies

COPENHAGEN - Cecil R. Goutermout, 79, summer resident of Liberty Road and winter resident of Happy Acres, died Thursday, Dec. 1, in Lewis County General Hospital, Lowvlle, where she had been a patient for a day. A memorial service was held Sunday, Dec, 4 at the Virkler - "Percoski Funeral Home, Lowville, With the Rev. Ronald YanLuven, pastor of the United Church of Copenhagen, officiating. Burial was in Rodman Cemetery.

Donations may be made to the Barnes Corners United Methodist Church building fund or to a charity of one's choice.

Surviving are her husband, Carl; four sons, Weldon J. Watson, Dry Creek, LA. Stephen D. Watson, Watertown, Scott C. Goutermout, Lowville, and Lewis C. Goutermout Aurora, CO; two daughters, Mrs. Edward (Wilma) Clemons, Copenhagen, and Mrs. Forrest (Laura) James, Fillmore; 19 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a brother, Milton E. Roof, Fillmore, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Born March 15, 1915 in Tremains Corners, a daughter of Cedric and Helen Barnes Newton Roof, she attended rural schools and Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs. She married Fred L. Watson May 31, 1932, in Copenhagen. Mr. Watson died June 28, 1952. She then married Carl H. Goutermout Dec. 24, 1952, in the Carthage United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Goutermout was town clerk and tax collector for the town of Montague for many years. She also was a teacher's aide for Lewis County Head Start, Lowville, for many years and a wallpaper hanger and domestic. She enjoyed cake decorating, crafts, gardening, baking, playing cards and made quillows and quilts.

Mrs. Goutermout was a member of the Barnes Corner United Methodist Church.
