Sister Claudette, a native of Leroy and resident of Opelousas, died at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, 1998, in Prompt Succor Nursing Home.
Born Eula Henry on October 22, 1915, Sister Claudette entered the Marianites of Holy Cross on Aug. 10, 1938, and took her final vows on Aug. 10, 1941.
A teacher all during her religious life, Sister Claudette taught elementary school at Holy Name of Mary, Holy Angels, St. Rita and St. Joseph schools in New Orleans. She then taught at high schools in Opelousas, Plaquemine, Lake Charles, Eunice, Morgan City and Franklin, where she spent the last eight years of her active life.
In 1981, Sister Claudette transferred to Our Lady of the Holy Cross in New Orleans, where she rendered community service and was in charge of the Marianite Guild. In 1995, she moved to Prompt Succor Nursing Home in Opelousas, where she resided until her death.
Survivors include two sisters, Orita Henry Duhon and Gladys Henry Louviere; three brothers, Gilbert, Percy and Rufus Henry; and a host of nieces and nephews. Sister Claudette was preceded in death by a sister, Aggles Henry Guidry and three brothers, John, Julius and Raoul Henry.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Sunday in the Convent Chapel of the Holy Cross, 4123 Woodland Drive, Algiers. Visiting hours will resume at noon Monday until the time of services. A prayer service is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Sunday.
