Alexander Louis "Lou" Ireland, 92, of Lane St., Westover, passed away Sunday, June 17, 2012 at Monongalia General Hospital with his family by his side.
He was born in Westover on November 10, 1919, the son of the late Archibald and Ida (Roos) Ireland. Mr. Ireland was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Morgantown. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army Air Corps.
He retired from the United States Postal Service after 22 years of service and was a longtime member of the Mon Chapter of the Izaak Walton League. Along with his wife, they volunteered their time at Meals on Wheels. The real joy of his life was being with his family.
Survivors include his three sons and their spouses, Richard and Nancy Ireland of Morgantown, Randall and Patti Ireland of Pennsylvania and Russell and Patricia Ireland of Westover seven grandchildren and their spouses, and eleven great-grandchildren.

Family and friends will be received at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, One Guthrie Lane, Morgantown on Wednesday, June 20th from 6-8PM. A Scriptural Wake Service will be held in the church at 7:30 PM Wednesday evening to conclude the visitation. On Thursday, June 21st, visitation will continue in the church from 9 AM until the celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM with Very Rev. Mark G. Ward, CP, VF as celebrant. Interment will follow in Mt. Union Cemetery, Morgantown.
