He was a retired New Jersey state senator and college president and also held many elected offices in Jersey City, N.J. He served in the Army as a personnel psychologist. He was a member of the Meadows Country Club, Better Government Association and the Organization for Growth and Government, all in Sarasota. He was a professional basketball player and a Hall of Fame member at St. Peter's College in Jersey City.
Survivors include his wife, Joan (Patterson); a stepson, Carol Wilbur of Peoria, Ill.; a stepdaughter, Shelley Wilbur of Sarasota; a sister, Alice Maloney of Avon, N.J.; and a brother, Thomas of Jersey City.
