BATH – O. Christina “Christie” Young, 61 of Middle St. passed away following a long battle with Alzheimer’s on Wednesday April 7, 2010 at Winship Green Nursing Center.
She was born in Bath on May 10, 1948 a daughter of Richard and Marjorie Smith Johnson. She lived in Bath her whole life and was educated in the Bath schools and graduating from Morse High School in 1966.
Christie started her working career at Montsweag Farm Restaurant as a waitress where she met and later married James B. Young on November 19, 1966. She also worked at Hallett’s Drug Store at the lunch counter; First National (Finest) Grocery Store as a Deli Clerk; and Shaws Supermarket as a Deli Clerk.
She played Tenor Sax in the Morse High School Band and with the Bath Municipal Band for many years.
Christie had a wonderful sense of humor that she kept through her long illness. She saw the good in everyone. Christie loved shopping for her children and grandchildren, going to yard sales, gardening, going to open houses and the beach. She loved baking her special pumpkin roll and made it for all her friends every Christmas and special occasions.
Christie loved spending time with her best friends Jeanine Sloan and Linda Koehling. Their friendship lasted her whole life. She also enjoyed special times with her niece Margie Hawkes and her family.
She is predeceased by a son James B. Young Jr. who died June 18, 1983.
Surviving are her husband of 43 years, James B. Young Sr. of Bath; a daughter, Jennifer Osterhout and her husband Douglas and two grandchildren, Sydney Osterhout and Lukas Osterhout all of Virginia.
Visiting hours will be 5:00 to 7:00pm, Friday April 9, 2010 at David E. Desmond & Son Funeral Home, 638 High St., Bath. Funeral services will be 1:00pm Saturday at United Church of Christ, Congregational, 150 Congress Ave., Bath with Rev. Bill Bliss officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in the spring.
