excerpt from daughter's account of death
this bio was given to yours truly by the author in 1994
"Biography of P. J. Monroe" written in 1990 by his oldest granddaughter Dorothy Monroe Guest. Dorothy's account of _Tragedy at the Well_ is a couple of pages.
The gist of what happened is the men & boys were working on the pump & Roy Monroe (30 Jan 1913 - 1 Sep 1925) went down the well to help & slumped over.
P J asked his oldest son Charles to check on Roy. Charles went down & collapsed. Narrative tells about neighbors helping & getting the bodies out. Both were buried at Camp Ground Cemetery. Dorothy was only 6 years old at the time & had 2 little sisters.
Dorothy says they lowered a lantern to see if it was carbon monoxide & the light was "quickly snuffed out". The entire bio is 20 pages.
Issue may contact yours truly for Mayflower, 1620 info
