October 25, 1968 - December 2, 2009
Cindy Lou Shotwell Mitchell was born on October 25, 1968 to Fletcher and Cynthia Shotwell. She was the oldest of three children, with a brother, Charles, and a sister, Cherilyn. She was the wife of Robert (Bobby) M. and the loving mother of Lacey M. Although she had never smoked a day in her life she was diagnosed with lung cancer in January of 2005. Even though her projected life expectancy was only two years she vowed to fight the disease. And she did. Her left lung was removed in April of 2005 along with the cancerous mass inside. She was in remission for 10 months until the cancer returned in August of 2006. It had metastasized to her bones and brain. She was only given six more months to live. Unwilling to give in to the disease she fought the cancer for three more years. In May of 2009, the cancer filled her only remaining lung with tumors. Exhausted - she continued to fight. During the entire battle she had an amazing spirit and outlook on life. When she was given nearly impossible obstacles, she overcame them. Her family and friends will miss her dearly. Although we want her here with us we know she's happy, pain free and being taken care of by God. We know that she wouldn't want us to be sad for her, and so we will remember the good times. We know the time we shared with her was a blessing. She lived her life to the fullest each day while she was on this earth, and for that reason she is our hero and inspiration. We can only hope to have the courage and spirit that she had. She was a fighter up until her last breath on Wednesday, December 2, 2009. Arrangements under the direction of Garden of Memories Funeral Home, Metairie, LA.
